Good day to our CUPE 5523 Members:
I hope this letter finds everyone enjoying the beautiful spring weather we have been experiencing.
ln the coming months, communication is going to be very important for our members and we must have your contact information to keep you informed. please help to reach out to new members and ask if they are receiving our emails or direct them to our website 5523.cupe.ca/) or to join our Facebook page. Contact your shop steward or myself if you are not receiving information.
As we begin bargaining at the provincial level soon, I expect this to be a challenging round due to the turmoil and volatility we are experiencing globally/ locally from Mr. Trumps chaotic thinking and leadership. We will set up dates to proceed with our local bargaining with SD 22 once we have completed provincial bargaining. An explanation of the bargaining process for K -12 workers is included with this letter. We have also initiated a QR code for input on bargaining topics from our members (this was attached to a bag of chips and distributed to worksites March 31). Please share any opinions you may have by April 17 inserting your thoughts in the answer area once you have opened the QR code. 540 bags of chips were distributed, but unfortunately not all members may have received the bag of chips & QR code.
How can we strengthen our communication and local during this time?
- Make sure your contact information is up-to-date
- Check out our CUPE 5523 worksite bulletin boards, website, Facebook
- Follow communication sent out by CUPE K-12 during provincial bargaining
- Attend department meetings or general meetings (next general May 10, 9 am VSS)
- Become a “Site Representative” to assist with sharing information at your work site
- Support your bargaining team by providing your input and attending meetings
- Wear your new CUPE 5523 T-Shirts signifying that we are the “Backbone of Education” (we will have planned dates soon for all of us to wear our shirts)
- If you’re interested in becoming more involved in the union, reach out to an executive member.
In Solidarity,
Gray Boisvert
