Hello CUPE Family and Friends,
It has been a very busy end to the school year, and I want to reach out to everyone and thank each of you individually for your contribution to another successful year in supporting the students at SD 22. While we have faced many challenges, our members continue to support the needs of the children in many different capacities.
To those of you that are off for the summer, enjoy our beautiful province or travel Canada and support our country.
To the employees that work during the summer, I cannot go without thanking you for preparing our schools for their September opening. Thank you to the staff in the school board office organizing departments for September opening and to our payroll department keeping us paid while facing the challenges of the new program (Edsembli).
A reminder to employees that there will be job postings out on the SD 22 website and emailed to your district email address July 15 and August 15. These will be posted for 10 working days and applications can be dropped off at the school board office or emailed to HR. Bumping has stopped in the EA department for the summer and will resume in September.
With the start of September, communication with members is going to be important. encourage everyone to check their personal email for CUPE 5523 information updates, check your worksite CUPE 5523 bulletin boards, check our Facebook page out where Gayle Shulhan has been doing a fantastic job providing information updates and event notices. You can also go to CUPE K-12 Bargaining to read the latest updates on our provincial bargaining.
Provincial bargaining is on hold for the summer and will resume sometime in September. Our Local bargaining will start once the K -12 President’s Council has ratified the provincial agreement. We will be bringing our local proposals for bargaining to you for ratification at a meeting prior to bargaining with the employer. It is important to understand that our present Collective Agreement remains in effect after the June 30 expiry date until we reach a new agreement. Please check for updated information, notices on bulletin boards, and attend meetings.
We continue to need site representatives for several worksites / schools and will be reaching out in September to fill these vacancies. The person at each site is important to assist us in making sure information is out to members as we enter bargaining. Please consider participating when the call comes in September.
In closing, I would like to thank the Executive and Committee volunteers for their work done at our local to assist our members. We can only succeed in numbers participating / volunteering as we move forward with new leaders.
Upcoming dates:
• General Meeting VSS Theatre September 13th @ 9 am
• Welcome Back BBQ @ Kin Beach 12:30-3:30
Have a great summer!
In Solidarity,
Gray Boisvert
CUPE 5523 President
